College Bound Education

Because the Traditional Classroom Program believes it is important to prepare students to attend four-year university after they graduation from high school, the administration offers a series of informative grade-specific seminars designed to help parents help their students successfully make the transition from middle school to high school, face the academic challenges of high school, and make the transition from high school to college.

The seminars are designed to provide timely and specific information that is tailored to meet the needs of parents based on the grade level of their student. The College Bound Seminars are an essential tool to empower parents to ensure their students succeed.

Freshman Grade Seminar– “Bridging The Gap”

The purpose of the freshmen seminar is to provide parents with the information and tools necessary to effectively help their students be successful in high school. This hands-on program is designed to address the specific issues and concerns facing parents with students in ninth grade. The following topics are addressed during the program:

What do I need to know to help my student be successful in high school?
What are the academic expectations at ECHS?
What tools can I use to help my student achieve academic success in high school?
How can I create an orderly, structured study environment at home?
Why is it important for my student to participate in extra-curricular activities?
Why is it important for my student to participate in community service?
How can I stay informed about events and important information at ECHS?

Sophomore Seminar– “Career Connections”

The purpose of the sophomore seminar is to provide parents with the information and tools necessary to help their students understand college entrance requirements, the importance of extra-curricular activities and community service in the college planning process, and how to begin investigating career options and their related college majors. The following topics are addressed during the program:

What diploma plan should my student select?
What factors are considered in college admissions?
How many extra-curricular activities should my student participate in?
What activities qualify as community service and how many hours should my student complete?
How should I keep record of my student’s accomplishments over the course of high school?
How can I help my student investigate careers and related majors?

Junior Seminar– “College Planning”

The purpose of the junior seminar is to provide parents with the information and tools necessary to help their students navigate the college selection and admissions process. The following topics are addressed during the program:

Why is it important for students to attend a four-year university?
What are the subject requirements for college admissions?
What standardized tests are required for college admissions?
What are the primary factors used in admissions decisions?
Which criteria should a student consider when selecting a college?
Why is it important for students to visit campuses prior to applying?
What does it cost to attend a four-year university and what sources of aide are available to assist students?

Senior Seminar– “Countdown to College”

The purpose of the senior seminar is to provide parents with information to help their students plan for post-secondary education. The following topics are addressed during the program:

How do I help my student select a college that will help him or her achieve post-secondary education goals?
How do I ensure my student’s transcript is accurate?
What information do students need to gather in preparation for a college application?
How does my student complete a California State University, University of California, or private university online application?
What are the guidelines for requesting letters of recommendation and official high school transcripts?
How does my student apply for financial aid and scholarships?
