What is blended learning?
Blended learning is a mix between traditional teaching and online learning done on site at a school.
How do I enroll my student?
To get on the list for the for the next school year, complete the on-line enrollment form. Depending on the number of students enrolled, students may be placed on a waiting list. Families will be contacted as soon as there is availability.

What is a charter school?
A charter school is a free public school that is paid for through tax dollars. Our charter schools operate independently of the local school districts and provide different educational programs to meet the needs of today’s students.
Do you have to pay to attend HJH?
No. HJH is a publicly funded charter school. There is no tuition to attend HJH.
Can students buy lunch at HJH?
No. HJH does not have a cafeteria so students bring their lunch from home. We do have some fund raiser days, such as Pizza on Thursday and sandwiches on Friday where students can order lunch in the morning and it is delivered for lunchtime.
What is the school year calendar?
HJH is on a traditional school calender. The school year begins mid-August and ends in May before Memorial Day. Students get a week off at Thanksgiving, two weeks off at Christmas, and one week off at Easter.
Is this a full time program?
HJH is a full time program. Students attend class all day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Students have a modified day every Wednesday (school ends at 2:00 PM).
What are the school hours?
Students attend from 7:50 AM to 2:55 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesdays, students attend from 7:50 AM to 2:00 PM. If needed, students may attend after school tutorial. Tutorial runs from 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM.
What does the school day look like at HJH?
Generally students have seven classes each school day including PE. These classes can be a class with face-to-face instruction or could be one of our learning labs. Excluding Wednesday, students will have two hours of math daily. For Science and History class, one hour is spent on traditional classroom instruction and one hour is spent on online learning. This mode of learning will alternate M, T, Th, & F. Wednesday is in a learning lab. This is also true for Great Books except for Wednesday. On Wednesday, in Great Books will attend a forum led by their teacher to discuss the novels they are reading. Students have half an hour for lunch and two ten minute breaks.
Do students have to wear uniforms?
Heritage Junior High School students must wear uniforms that consist of a navy, maroon, black, or white polo and khaki, black, or navy uniform bottoms. HJH students must also dress out in a PE uniform for PE class.

Do you have a library?
HJH does not have a traditional library, but we do have a reading library for each grade level that supports our independent reading program. HJH students use online reference materials for most academic research and have access to all levels of the World Book Encyclopedia reference materials.
What do you do for PE?
Heritage Junior High School has a traditional physical education program that meets every day for a total of five hours. All middle school students dress out for PE.
How are grades calculated?
HJH grades are done on a traditional ABC scale. Assessments are anything that shows a student’s mastery of content or skills and can include tests, projects, written assignments, labs, and presentations. Assignments are the practice work students do in order to learn new content or skills.
What are the eligibility requirements for sports and extracurricular activities?
Students at HJH must maintain a 2.5 GPA with no D’s or F’s in order to participate in sports and extracurricular activities.
